Who We Are

Uplifting Entrepreneurs. Amplifying Creators.
Driving Economic Development.

Black Owned Brockton (BOB) is a nonprofit serving Brockton, the Greater Brockton region, and the South Shore through business support, workforce access, creative programming, and public engagement.

We help entrepreneurs, creatives, and residents expand public awareness, connect to training and resources, and build stronger pathways to ownership and economic mobility.

Our work includes business activations, workforce initiatives, creative investment, digital promotion, and organizing efforts that strengthen local connections and keep economic activity circulating within the region.

BOB also serves as an advocacy and organizing platform that brings together residents, business owners, institutions, and local leadership around shared economic priorities.

How we started

Built from a real need during a time of change

Black Owned Brockton began in 2020 during the pandemic. While many businesses faced major challenges, we also saw people reconnect with their creativity, revisit old ideas, and use their skills in new ways. Residents began launching businesses, offering services, creating products, and building projects that deserved greater visibility and support.

What started as an effort to magnify recognition quickly expanded into a broader nonprofit initiative focused on economic opportunity, ownership, and long term growth.

As the organization evolved, so did the work. BOB expanded beyond promotion into workforce development, creative programming, public activations, and business support designed to strengthen the local economy and increase access across the region.

Impact Snapshot

Workforce Development

Expanding access to skills that lead to employment

Residents gain industry recognized credentials and exposure to cooperative models without the cost barrier. This increases access to employment, supports shared ownership, and strengthens long-term economic stability.

Business Growth

Driving revenue and consistent engagement for local businesses

Businesses are generating income while increasing visibility. This supports local ownership, strengthens customer bases, and keeps more economic activity within the region.

Creative Investment

Supporting creative work that reflects local culture

Artists and creatives receive direct financial support to produce work. This strengthens cultural presence, supports creative careers, and contributes to the identity of the region.

Digital Reach & Visibility

Expanding audience reach and awareness for local businesses

Businesses and creatives are reaching new audiences beyond their immediate networks. This increases visibility, builds awareness, and creates more opportunities for engagement and sales without relying on paid advertising

Where We Are Going

Focused on expansion, ownership, and long term economic growth

The next phase of this work is centered around expanding impact across Brockton, Plymouth County, and the South Shore while continuing to deepen local connections.

Future efforts will focus on strengthening systems that support entrepreneurs, creatives, and residents through workforce access, business support, creative opportunities, and pathways connected to ownership.

The work will continue creating public facing activations, strengthening regional connections, and increasing opportunities for businesses and creatives to generate income and reach wider audiences.

As the organization grows, there is also a strong focus on improving infrastructure, increasing collaboration across sectors, and building systems that keep more resources and economic activity circulating within the region.

We recognize every business owner, creative, and resident contributing to this work. Your continued support and participation shape these outcomes and the direction ahead.
